I since purchased an EZPass after understanding that I truly did exit, although I was unaware that I had. I explained to the PA Turnpike Commission that I was not aware that I had gotten off the turnpike and that it was not my intention to avoid the tolls.

The fees were waived since I purchased an EZPass. I learned that the funds are automatically renewed from your bank account once the balance is below $10.00 and that the EZPass is automatically read and the tolls instantly deducted from your EZPass account. So I am happy with the resolution.

I learned that the cashless system allows for exiting without stopping at toll boths or slowing down and sometimes not getting onto an exit ramp. And, now that I understand the system, I realize that it is a better system.

In mid-June June of 2017, I was traveling eastbound to NJ from Harrisburg, PA and was unaware that I was exiting the PA turnpike at Neshaminy Falls. There were no exit signs or a ramp leading to toll booths.

There was a sign indicating somethng to the effect of exit here to get a ticket. There was no exit ramp and I did not understand that EZPASS only means that you were taking an exit at the speed of 55 mph to get off the turnpike. So, I was very surprised when I got a violation notice indicating that I had gone through an EZPASS toll booth without paying. It used to be that the yellow arm in the booth would not let you exit if you did not pay.

In this instance, the driver was not made aware of the exit and there was no toll booth. The signage available made no sense, it directed the driver through the booths to get a ticket and I assumed that it was for another toll road, not the turnpike. There was no exit sign saying EXIT 353, Neshaminy Falls, end of turnpike. The other option was to go straight, which I did because I did not want to exit the turnpike but continue in to NJ.

I knew there was a toll booth between PA and NJ. I was surprised that they took it down. They want to charge the full fare as if you drove the full lenght of PA via the PA turnpike ($44.85 and a $25.00 administrative fee). I don't understand how they say you exited the turnpike when there was no exit sign, no off ramp and no toll booth.

The available signs indicated that you could veer to the right to "get ticket" which means that you are entering another toll road, when you enter a toll road, you take the ticket at the booth. When you exit a toll road, you pay. If you already had a ticket, why would you go to get another ticket to go to the next toll road before you exited the PA turnpike? Unfortunately, I did not save my original ticket because I noticed the toll booth was dismanteld at the Delaware River Bridge, and I later read that there were no tolls due leaving PA to enter NJ.

However, there are still no available signs indicating that one is exiting at 353 and no toll booths clearly marked for taking money, only clearly marked for giving tickets. This is very confusing. I am surprised more people have not commented on this problem. I will request that they put up a clear exit sign going East Bound on the PA turnpike approaching Neshaminy Falls and a clear sign that says you must exit to pay here.

I have never seen an EZpass exit that allows a motorist to go 55 mph, only one where you go through a booth with a yellow arm and above the entrance to the toll booth would be a neon sign saying "EZPASS". I was unaware of this new system where the EZPASS sign and lane at 55 mph was an exit and that tolls would be paid with no toll booth. Even with EZPASS, there was always a toll booth. However, that, as I have learned, is not the case.

There was no way I could have known this with the information available to me. I had no idea I was in violation as there were no clear signs and I have not been on the turnpike for several years prior to this. As I said, this is traveling eastbound. On may way home, I took a different route via Trenton and got a ticket when I entered the Turnpike and paid when I got off from Harrisburg.

Since the turnpike commission mails the violation to your house, it should be obvious that you entered the turnpike at the entrance nearest your house. The full charge for lost tickets or no tickets is because the toll booth operator would have no way to know where the motorist entered the turnpike. When the turnpike commission mails the violation notice, it should be obvious that the motorist enters the turnpike at the location nearest to his or her house. Why would a motorist who lives in Central PA drive all the way to the Ohio border and double back to pass his house and drive to the NJ border?

How could you have gotten off the turnpike and driven through an EZ pass toll booth when there is no toll booth and no exit ramp? So, I learned through some internet research that now instead of toll booths, the EZpass transponders are automatically read and the motorist doesn't go through booths. I had no idea things had changed so much. It appears that the whole turnpike is moving to a cashless system where either 1.

EZpass transponders are automatically read, no slowing down, no toll booths or 2. The license is photographed and the motorist is sent a bill.

(i.e. NJ to PA via the Delaware Bridge) How can someone know this if they haven't been on the turnpike for several years?

Reason of review: Confusing Signs, Unaware of new systems.

Monetary Loss: $56.

Preferred solution: Price reduction.

Pa Turnpike Cons: Bill in the mail not good.

Pennsylvania Turnpike Sections went Cashless Tolling in 2016 and 2022 while NJTA will be Cash and AET will be accepted at all these Toll Booths and Toll Gantries while paying with Cash and EZ Pass and AET are now permanently by the NJTA at www.njta.com,Jason Armes.

Same thing just happened to our family this summer. I am now going to dispute. Thank you for your post.

There needs to be a sign that reads: ALL NON EZ PASS CARS MUST EXIT HERE. Then use all the money that you collect from unsuspecting people to post 1 person at a booth to pay the toll and a ramp to get back on this road and continue to Delaware Valley/NJ or any other exit after #353. Stop robbing people who rarely use the turnpike!

Entered at Lehigh Valley #56 exited at Delaware Valley #358 and did not get off at any other ramp but got a letter stating that I owed for Neshaminy Falls Exit 353 at a $72+ rate. I don't have EZ Pass, never took a ramp until #358.

What a scam the turnpike has going on. With all the bogus tolls they are giving at least put up a building with lanes so I know I am exiting the turnpike even if I am NOT!

that was what happened to a friend few days ago..this place is very difficult to understand.. he took an wrong exit ,then he came back to the highway..he got 2 tikets..$71 and $73. plus $7 for a plate toll.i can not understand why soooooo expensive

OMG, I took route 1 entering the PA turnpike around Street Road. I got the ticket.

All seem good. I then travel to NJ turnpike. Somewhere around Nashaminy Falls 353, I got billed $72.55. I don't remembering seeing E-Z Pass exit only.

I saw the signed said e-z pass or toll by plate, no cash option. Is this a scam? I don't see a toll booth around there to collect toll.

I'm don't travel on PA turnpike often so I'm going to pay the the PA scam, but I'm not happy. Does this happen to everyone around this Nashaminy Falls 353 exit?

The same thing happened to me at the 353 /8 exit!!! Wtf pa turnpike?

I got into the lane that started ticket, I took the ticket and proceeded in n.j going too Columbus flea market in n.j I never came across another toll to pay any exit fees on the ticket. I made it too my destination without another troll? Coming back too pa I only encountered best Ross bridge and payed at the bridge. Today I received a license plate photo of my car and a $72.00 TICKET!!!

FOR WHAT?! THERE WASNT A TOLL AFTER I RECEIVED THE TOLL TICKET?! HOW CAN YOU GIVE A MOTORISTS A CASH TICKET THEN VIOLATE THE DRIVER??

THEN THE TICKET THE LETTER STATED I WENT THROUGH THE EZ-PASS LANE ! WHICH I DID NOT DO!!

Yep happened to me and I called the PATP number to inquire about what imbecile decided to approve EZpass only exits and entrances. I told them I see a scam here and that they should be sued.

Minutes later I was paying $2.70 instead of $82.50. It's a scam.

They will forgive your fine if you sign up with EZPass otherwise you pay. One guy was almost killed because he had to park on the side of that PA deathrace to re-route his GPS, since his exit was EZPass only and he didn't want a fine!

Same thing happened to me on 8/4/17. This seems like a scam set up by the state to collect more funds.

I didn't notice any signs and all of a sudden I was on the NJ turnpike collecting a ticket for that one without having paid for the PA one, which I would have been happy to do, as always. REALLY awful system.

Guest

Same exact thing happened to me!! Couldn't for the life of me figure out how I ended up taking the ticket for the NJ portion when I still had my PA ticket.

There was no obvious place to pay the PA toll. Very misleading.

I just called them and explained.. they validated my Ezpass account details and charged only 5$ for that exit.. Looks some system issue on their side...So if someone face this issue in future, please call them if you have Ezpass..
